These damages are, according to the police authorities, likely reprisals for the anti-drug operation underway in the city.

Specializing in emergency situations, the CRS 81 was deployed in Cavaillon (Vaucluse), this Wednesday, October 9, following the four police cars set on fire in front of the town’s police station. “The police station is fully operational (…) We carried out a long-planned evacuation operation of a squat this morning. We have additional reinforcements this evening, a CRS unit”announced Thierry Suquet, prefect of Vaucluse, during a press conference this Wednesday afternoon.

The CRS 81, based in the north of , is a variation in the south of the CRS 8 unit, created by the former Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, to fight against urban violence in particular. For Cavaillon, the authorities sent around 30 police officers to the site. They arrive this evening and will be “reinforced if necessary quickly“, assures a source to TF1/LCI.

“All means are being implemented”

“No injuries have been reported, a flagrant investigation into the crime of aggravated destruction committed by an organized gang to the detriment of a person holding public authority. All means are being implemented to arrest the perpetrators of this offense”continues Florence Galtier, the public prosecutor. “No track is privileged”she adds. However, according to the police authorities, the fire of the vehicles is probably due to “retaliation for police action” against drug trafficking in this town of just over 25,000 inhabitants.
