These revealed secret Russian military files outline Moscow's plans in the event of war in the Far East.

29 secret Russian military files reportedly revealed by the Financial Times. These describe Moscow's plans in the event of war in the Far East. These documents, which appear to have been collected between 2013 and 2014, describe an actual bombing plan. They wear the insignia of the Russian Combined Arms Academy, a training school for senior officers.

Even if this was only a theoretical exercise, the renewed tensions between Russia and its eastern neighbors mean that such a revelation should be taken very seriously. Especially since these plans are particularly precise: they list 160 targets to hit in Japan and South Korea in order to paralyze these two countries, in the event of open war.

“Prevent the regrouping of troops in areas of operational interest”

Among these targets, 82 are purely military, such as the central and regional headquarters of the Japanese and South Korean armed forces, radar installations, air bases and naval installations, details the British daily. But the others are civil, such as communication routes or energy infrastructures, including nuclear power plants.

This list of targets was to be hit by Kh-101 cruise missiles. It even details the number of missiles necessary to overcome certain protected objectives, such as the underground command centers of the South Korean army.

Still according to our colleagues across the Channel, these documents mention that the aim of the strikes would be “to prevent the regrouping of troops in areas of operational interest” in the Asia-Pacific sector in the event of war with NATO.
