The International Tennis Federation formalized this Friday the new format of the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup. If the group phases disappear for the men’s competition, they remain very present for the girls.

New (partial) change for the Davis Cup. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) unveiled this Friday the new adjustments for the “Tennis World Cup” from 2025, the current formula of which struggles to convince. If the final phase (quarters, semis, final) remains over one week in November continuously, the “home/away” format is officially making its return for the 1st round. 26 nations will compete for a place in the second round, where they will be joined by the reigning champion of the competition.

The seven nations that emerge victorious from this confrontation will qualify for the final phase. The eighth nation will have a host country wildcard.

The Billie Jean King Cup is also evolving

Like its male counterpart, the “BJKC” is also undergoing changes. Modeled on the current Davis Cup, 21 nations will be divided into seven groups of three teams for “qualifiers” from April 2025. The seven group winners are qualified for the Final 8 in November, as is the host country. , exempt from the qualifying round. Home/away matches will return to qualifying from 2026.
