Google intends to influence the smartphone market as a manufacturer, and no longer just as a publisher of the Android operating system. It takes the opposite view of many competing brands, focusing little on visible hardware innovation, but more on intelligent functions (exclusive functions within Android 14 and Google Photos) and the software durability of its products. Its Pixel 8 Pro does not lack in assets, however. We certainly regret a somewhat light autonomy, but we welcome a quality screen, good performance, a very complete photo component and a careful design. Its launch price does not escape inflation, but has the merit, compared to the duration of updates promised by Google, of being advantageous. So many elements to take into account when choosing a new premium smartphone.
NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude the prices of stores whose the VAT policy is not clear (so-called “gray” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).
-An alternative
Samsung’s previous Galaxy Ultras were able to convince us, but not fully. It is quite different for the 2023 vintage which finally reaches the top of the range, perfectly complete and pleasant in all situations. We can obviously criticize this Galaxy 23 Ultra for a photo part that is oddly quite behind on certain points, but nothing that cannot be corrected by a subsequent update. As it stands, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra can once again claim its place as king of premium.
