Many users of Google Home and Nest connected speakers have been experiencing voice recognition issues since the end of December. The devices no longer respond to some basic commands, creating growing frustration within the user community.
According to users affected by Google Home and Nest speaker malfunctions, the problem mainly manifests itself during simple queries like “What’s the weather?” or “What time is it?” “. In these situations, devices activate and display a treatment animation, but remain silent. This anomaly affects the entire range, from the Nest Hub Max to the Home Mini, including the Nest Audio and the classic Nest Hub.
Interestingly, the dysfunction appears selective. If basic commands are affected, other features continue to function normally. Users can still control their connected lights, activate their robot vacuum cleaners or manage other home automation devices without difficulty.

Google is aware of the issue and a fix is being deployed
Typical troubleshooting attempts, such as restarting devices or resetting routers, did not resolve the issue. Some users have gone so far as to completely reset their speakers, with no further success.
Android Authority was able to confirm these malfunctions during extensive testing. The site reports that even on a 600 Mbps broadband Internet connection, devices get stuck on these basic commands. The observed behavior suggests confusion in the hierarchy of responses between different Google devices present in the same room.
Google has acknowledged the existence of the problem and says its teams are working to identify the cause. A company spokesperson said that the situation should already be resolved for the majority of users, although the exact reasons for the malfunction were not communicated.
For many users who rely on these voice assistants daily, these failures, even temporary, could have been a real problem. Fortunately, if Google is to be believed, everything should be back to normal soon. In the meantime, we remind you that Google speakers recently received a new, more natural voice, but it should not be the cause of such malfunctions.
