In a statement held this Tuesday, January 7, during his press conference, Barthélémy Dias, former mayor of the city of Dakar, again attacked the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, before sending a message to the Union of Magistrates of Senegal (UMS).

“When we come to say that the Minister of Justice is not a judicial authority, but a political authority, it is extremely serious. I will not comment now on a certain justice, which has opted to be tamed or domesticated,” declared Barthélémy Dias.

“Because when you are under orders, you carry out whatever the orders are. And I remain convinced that there are magistrates in this country who will understand what the Senegalese expect of them,” he adds.

“Now, for this certain justice, which has chosen to be domesticated or tamed, I would only like to say, with regard to the UMS, the Union of Senegalese Magistrates, that it should not, tomorrow, be they come to tell us that you are a constituted body, that you have immunity, that you are protected, this or that. You are Senegalese like everyone else. And, if necessary, you are accountable like everyone else. I will limit myself to that,” recalls Dias-fils.
