The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 may not be available at CES in Las Vegas, but two weeks later, on January 21, 2025.
According to recent rumors, Nvidia plans to launch its GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card on January 21, 2025. This event would come approximately two weeks after the official presentation planned at CES 2025, where Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, will host the keynote opening on January 6.
A launch of the RTX 5080 earlier than expected
Contrary to tradition, NVIDIA has reportedly chosen to launch the GeForce RTX 5080 before its flagship model, the RTX 5090. While this strategy is unusual, it appears to be confirmed by several sources, including HKEPC (@hkepcmedia), which reported that the RTX 5080 would be available for sale starting January 21. For the RTX 5090, no official launch date has been announced yet, but some speculation suggests a simultaneous or later release later this month. Still, thank you Trump, the RTX 5080 must be released quickly.
RTX 5080 Features
The GeForce RTX 5080 is part of the high-end segment and succeeds the RTX 4080 of the Ada Lovelace generation. Based on the GB203-300-A1 chip, it features 10,752 CUDA cores and retains a VRAM capacity of 16 GB, but introduces GDDR7 memory modules operating at a speed of 30 Gbps. These modules offer superior performance, even surpassing that expected on the RTX 5090.
With a memory bus width of 256 bits, the RTX 5080 is expected to deliver memory bandwidth of around 960 GB/s, an increase of 34% over the RTX 4080 and 30% over the RTX 4080 Great. These improvements should be accompanied by an increased power consumption (TBP) of 80 W compared to the previous generation.
What announcements will be made at CES 2025?
CES 2025 will be an opportunity for Nvidia to officially present its range of Blackwell GPUs intended for gaming. In addition to the RTX 5080, this event could also reveal other models in the range, such as the RTX 5090, expected with a GB202 chip measuring around 744 mm², or 22% more than the AD102 chip in the RTX 4090.
