The iPhone 17 series won’t be released for several months, but there are already many rumors circulating about it. And among these rumors, there are those about the design. For example, in October, our colleagues at MacRumors mentioned a note from analyst Jeff Pu according to which the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to a new technology called metalens. This allows you to have the same quality of FaceID sensors on a smaller notch. This source would also have indicated that the new feature would only be offered on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but not on the iPhone 17 Pro.
This wouldn’t be surprising, since Apple regularly tries to differentiate the Pro Max model from the Pro model. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro do not have the same camera, since the Pro Max model of this series has a more powerful optical zoom. However, as reported by our colleagues at BGR, this rumor is today contradicted by a publication from the Chinese site mydrivers.com. The site also mentions a reduction in the size of Dynamic Island. But according to this one, this improvement would be available on both the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
BGR, which relays the information from this Chinese site, however calls for caution, since it would be more logical, according to it, for Apple to reserve this new feature for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Other changes are possible
Other design changes are reportedly in the works, for the iPhone 17 series. For example, there are rumors that, on this series, the camera module would be placed on a horizontal bar, like on Google Pixel devices . On the other hand, the back would have a part made of aluminum and another part made of glass, to support wireless charging. But these rumors about the back and camera module of the iPhone 17 series are also contradicted by some sources. Furthermore, as this is not official information, caution is still required. But in any case, these would be radical changes compared to the designs of the iPhones released in recent years.
As a reminder, the iPhone 17 series should normally be released in September 2025. And in the meantime, other information will circulate on the web. Apple is expected to launch an iPhone 17, an iPhone 17 Air (instead of the iPhone 17 Plus), an iPhone 17 Pro and an iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air will be a fairly special model, since it would be an extremely thin model. However, to reduce the thickness of this iPhone, Apple would make concessions in terms of the technical sheet.
