The Saint-Étienne Museum of Modern and Contemporary (MAMC) can boast substantial financial support from local economic players, whether large companies or SMEs. With 160,000 euros in annual donations, patronage is an essential pillar for this flagship institution of regional culture, enabling the restoration of works, the organization of exhibitions and the publication of catalogs.

A revival in the tradition of patronage

“This museum was born with the support of large local companies, notably Casino. For two years, we have decided to reconnect with this tradition by strengthening links with the local economic fabric,” explains Marc Chassaubéné, vice-president of Saint-Étienne Métropole (SEM) in charge of culture.

Thus, Société Générale (SG) Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes recently joined the circle of major sponsors of the MAMC, making a contribution of 20,000 euros per year for a period of one year. This commitment is in addition to that of the Desjoyaux swimming pools and Ravon Automobile, two major local companies, which each support the museum to the tune of 50,000 euros per year.

Patronage: a win-win gesture

Beyond the enhanced image and visibility on the museum's communication media, patrons benefit from tax advantages: 60% of the amount of their donation is tax deductible. They can also organize private events within the museum for an amount equivalent to 25% of their contribution.

According to Pierre Beaurepaire, commercial director of SG Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, this commitment fits perfectly into the company's cultural policy: “We are very proud to join this restricted circle of patrons, echoing our own collection of art of 1,800 works. »

Expanded support thanks to the Patrons Club

To mobilize smaller businesses, the museum also relies on its Patrons Club. Created in 2007, this club brings together around fifteen local SMEs, each contributing at least 2,000 euros per year. Together, they generate 40,000 euros annually, devoted mainly to the promotion of young artists through the Partners Prize.

This prize allows emerging artists to exhibit their work at the museum and publish a dedicated catalog. “It’s a real springboard for these creators,” underlines Aurélie Voltz, director of the museum. Until March 16, Lyonnaise Anne Bourse benefits from this valuable opportunity.

A global vision for cultural patronage

Saint-Étienne Métropole does not limit its ambition to the Museum of Modern Art alone. Denis Barriol, vice-president in charge of patronage, recalls that “a global vision has been developed to support, beyond the MAMC, design and other areas such as the environment. »

Finally, the Friends of the Museum association completes this network by occasionally helping with the acquisition of works, thus broadening the cultural influence of the institution.

With a network of committed patrons, the MAMC asserts itself as a model of cooperation between culture and economy, making it possible to preserve and enrich an exceptional artistic heritage while supporting contemporary creation.
