In 2024, it is a cleaning lady who will have panicked the book sales counters. The first part of the trilogy of the same name, from Freida McFaddenproudly dominates the ranking of the best sellers of the year, published exclusively by Weekly Books and GFK (to be found at the end of this article), in its J'ai Lu edition. And this, while another title in the trilogy, Secrets of the housekeeper (J'ai Lu), occupies 13th position in the ranking. The Housekeeper shares his podium with The Midwife of Auschwitz d’Anna Stuart (J'ai Lu), another enduring bestseller of the year, and A wild animal of Joel Dicker (Rosie & Wolfe), the author's latest novel. The Geneva crime star does not stop there: he is also in 21st place in the ranking with The Alaska Sanders Affair (Rosie & Wolfe).

While his predecessor, Watch over heroccupied 3rd place in 2023, the last Goncourt, Houris of Camel Daoud (Gallimard), displays a more modest success in 6th position, behind Angelic et someone else of Guillaume Musso (Calmann-Lévy). He is closely followed by Jacaranda of Gail Faye (Grasset), another heavyweight of the awards season (he won the Renaudot prize) who sits in 8th place. On the manga side, it's hard to missInstinct (Michel Lafon), the first title ofInès Benazzouzsays Inoxtag, co-written with Basil Monnot and illustrated by Charles Compain. Published on November 21, it was promised success even before its publication, with a record first print run of 400,000 copies.

A leading figure in French dark romance, the author Sarah Rivens shows that she has not said her last word after having closed Captivehis first successful saga: the first volume of Lakestoneits new series launched in January 2024 (Hlab), occupies the 17th position of best sellers, just ahead Forever of Colleen Hoover (Hugo pocket). Please note: this is not the only representative of French romance in this top 50, since Morgane Moncomble is also doing well with Seasons. Flight. 1. An autumn to forgive yourself (Hugo Romans) in 34th place. Its sequel, A winter to resist youis 36ᵉ.

Finally, if the first two steps of the podium are occupied by the American Freida McFadden and the British Anna Stuart (followed by Swiss Joel Dicker) the ranking remains overwhelmingly French-speaking with 41 titles in the top 50. Among the nine translated works, the English language unsurprisingly dominates with six novels – all written by female authors – ahead of the Japanese language represented by a novel by Toshikazu Kawaguchi and two manga opuses One Piece d’Eiichiro Oda.
