Huawei claims to have made huge progress, from operating systems to artificial intelligence

China’s Huawei Technologies said Friday it has made breakthroughs in areas ranging from operating systems to artificial intelligence, and that it took a decade to accomplish what the United States and China Europe took thirty years to achieve.

Richard Yu, president of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, was speaking at the opening of a three-day developer conference in the southern Chinese city of Dongguan, where he said the company’s Harmony operating system was now available on more than 900 million devices.

“Harmony has made major advances. It can be said that in ten years we have achieved what our European and American counterparts took over thirty years to do, in terms of building the basic technology of a system of “independent operation,” Mr. Yu said.

The company’s Ascend AI infrastructure – the most powerful from a Chinese company – is now the second most popular after Nvidia, which dominates the AI chip market, Yu added.

Operating systems and other software have been dominated by Europe and the United States for a long time, but the era of the Internet of Things has given Huawei the opportunity to overtake them, he said. .

In the first quarter of 2024, HarmonyOS, Huawei’s in-house version of the operating system, overtook Apple’s iOS to become the second best-selling mobile operating system in China, behind Android, with a market share of 17%. , indicated the research firm Counterpoint.
