Launched in 2020, the Solaris Playground, the summer edition of Polaris, had to give up these last two editions in 2022 and 2023. For its “big return” from June 28 to 30, 2024, the festival is moving to a new location, still in Verbier. (VS): Adrien’s Chalet. On the program, Swiss and international artists. As revealed by the director, Mirko Loko, festival-goers will be able to listen to Kerri Chandler, Seth Troxler, Moodymann, Dixon and MCDE.

Why did you give up on the 2022 and 2023 editions?

The first editions of the festival took place in Savoleyres, on the heights of Verbier. Unfortunately, Téléverbier has very old cable cars in this part of the resort, and these facilities had become too dilapidated to transport festival-goers safely after dark. We therefore had to look for a new location, a space that would allow us to preserve the essence of the festival, that is to say, offer an intimate setting where artists can perform as close as possible to the public.

Were you afraid that you wouldn’t be able to restart the festival or were you always confident?

You can never be completely confident in this kind of situation; it’s always a real obstacle course. However, it is crucial to be persistent and passionate about what you do. After a break, coming back is always a challenge. Fortunately, we found a solution with Chalet d’Adrien, which allows us to maintain a friendly, intimate and warm setting, thus preserving the magic of the festival. For the occasion, the venue will be completely redeveloped and transformed, offering a unique experience for both the artists and the public.

You have programmed Swiss and international artists. Did they easily agree to come back for the resumption of the festival?

Yes, absolutely! For most of the local artists, we grew up together, having programmed them before they became as well known as they are today. A form of loyalty was established between us. When it comes to international artists, the relationship is similar. We have strong connections and we are very grateful that they stepped up. Without them, the festival would not be the same.

And is the public there?

From what we observe, the public is responding. The Solaris Playground is a project that people are excited about. The first edition, just after the pandemic, was also a pilot project in Valais for the implementation of health measures allowing such events to be held. Festival-goers have fond memories of the first two editions. Maybe they remember good times and want to relive them.
