It was during the Summer Game Fest conference that we were able to learn of the existence of this new Lego title which will arrive on PS5 and Switch at the end of the year. After two very good games featuring her, Aloy is back. And she wants to break bricks!

Fun rather than the end (of times)

Rather than announcing a third episode of the Horizon series, Sony preferred to surprise everyone by unveiling LEGO Horizon Adventures. Here, we find a plasticized Aloy who ventures into colorful worlds made of small bricks. In the program ? Fights against giant Lego robots from the Horizon universe, customization of outfits, coop, but also constructions typical of Lego games. As you might expect, this new title will come with a new story which promises to be particularly offbeat. After all, that’s also what we’re looking for when Lego parodies a work we like.

The project’s narrative director, James Windeler, provided more details at GameSpot. Based on Horizon Zero Dawn, this Lego adventure is more humorous and will propel Aloy in search of her mother while she finds herself plunged into the middle of a great conflict. Designed to be family friendly and very accessible, the title will put aside certain delicate themes discussed in the past. Here, only one watchword counts: fun.

A favorable climate

James Windeler indeed explained that the software was neither a faithful rereading of previous games, nor a parody. “We wanted to have fun with the license, we wanted to use all the self-referencing humor that characterizes Lego games” he stressed. “We told a story that we felt captured some of the spirit of the original title, some themes” we can read. The Horizon universe is therefore a great source of inspiration, but it is largely modified for a madness that is meant to be fun and who does not have to deliver any particular messages. “We’ve definitely pushed some of the more complex and darker themes to the background” recognizes the narrative director. Even if the issue of climate change will be addressed, it will be treated with “subtlety”. “You know, the story takes place more in the present and focuses on a more emotional story of a girl searching for her mother who finds herself drawn into an adventure with existential stakes” explains James Windeler.

As a reminder, Lego Horizon Adventures will not be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. According to James Windeler, its lifespan should be around 7 to 8 hours of play. In addition to the Sony console, the software will also arrive on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch. An announcement which surprised quite a few people and which proves once again that things are changing in terms of the exclusivity policy of the major manufacturers.
