If dumbphones still remain a niche phenomenon compared to the supply and sales of smartphones, the market sometimes reserves funny surprises, like the latest from Light Phone.

As a reminder, a dumbphone is the perfect antithesis of a smartphonenamely a phone that goes back to basics, a relatively basic product, lacking advanced features and often even deprived of internet access.

The idea is to be able to disconnect and come back to basicswith devices offering only basic functionalities, that is to say making calls, sending and receiving SMS messages, enjoying a calendar, a calculator, a camera or even small games.

There are different types of dumbphones, with on the one hand more modern reissues of iconic phones like the Nokia 3310, 8110 and 3210, for those nostalgic for that era, and on the other hand real innovations like what has now been offered almost ten years old the American Light Phone, for all those who wish to detoxify a little from the networks.

Going against the culture of buzz and entertainment, the Light Phone III was designed to detoxify itself from notifications of all kinds and social networks, without the help of generative artificial intelligence. He introduces a minimalist interfacein black and white, on a matte OLED screen, but integrates 128 GB of storage spaceA cameraA fingerprint sensorA GPS and an contactless chip (NFC). It is even 5G compatible, for video calls for example.

Finally, if there is something that ultimately brings it closer to a smartphone, it is its price. Already available for pre-order, it is priced at $399 (compared to $799 upon release), with first deliveries scheduled for early 2025.
