Germany built on their 5-1 win over Scotland in the tournament’s opening game with a 2-0 defeat of Hungary that saw them secure progress to the knockout stages with a game to spare. On three of the four previous occasions on which Germany have started a Euro with two wins from two, they have gone on to be crowned European champions. Nagelsmann has resisted the urge to rotate, even with a handful of starters on yellow cards. Manuel Neuer sets a tournament record for most appearances by a goalkeeper, with 18, while Jamal Musiala will be out to score in his third straight group game. The likes of Niclas Füllkrug and Leroy Sané are among the substitutes. Germany will top the group, as long as they avoid defeat in Frankfurt.

Switzerland have avoided defeat to Germany in the duo’s last three contests, and a point for Murat Yakin’s team will see them join their opponents in the Round of 16. The Euro 2020 quarter-finalists feature a host of familiar faces to Bundesliga fans in their line-up at Deutsche Bank Park, notably captain Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen), goalkeeper Yann Sommer (ex-Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern), and defenders Manuel Akanji (ex-Borussia Dortmund) and Ricardo Rodriguez (ex-Wolfsburg). Ruben Vargas (Augsburg) drops to the bench in favour of former Gladbach forward Breel Embolo, but Silvan Widmer (Mainz) and ex-Hoffenheim defender Fabian Schär retain their places. Xherdan Shaqiri – once of Bayern Munich – makes way for Fabian Rieder.
