Nvidia plans to compete with Intel and AMD with a new processor designed for use in consumer PCs, according to a report. The move could allow the gaming GPU maker to challenge Intel and AMD’s dominance in the PC world, particularly when it comes to laptops and AI, but the company’s lack of an x86 license company will pose a challenge to this Nvidia processor expected to run PC games and the PC’s vast catalog of software. This latest report comes from DigiTimes (behind a paywall), which claims that Nvidia is working on a new Arm-based processor to directly challenge Intel and AMD, corroborating previous rumors of an Nvidia Arm PC processor. Nvidia can already make Arm processors, of course. If you own a Nintendo Switch, you already have a Tegra chip in the device. Nvidia’s Tegra chips have also made their way into various Android phones and tablets, but until now Windows 10 and 11 on Arm have been exclusive to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips.
