Cristian Tudor Popescu, conclusion after the shock of the first round: “The invasion of Romania by Russia has begun”

Journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu wrote a short message on his Facebook page on Sunday night, in the context in which, after counting a very large percentage of the votes, the ultra-nationalist independent candidate Călin Georgescu will enter the second round of the presidential elections, in which he states that ” began the invasion of Romania by Russia”.

“In the evening of November 24, 2024, the invasion of Romania by Russia began”, are the words posted by Cristian Tudor Popescu.

At the time of publishing this article, after the centralization of 82.5% of the votes, the official results announced by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) are as follows:

  • Călin Georgescu – 22%
  • Marcel Ciolacu – 20.8%
  • Elena Lasconi – 17.07%,
  • George Simion – 14.3%
  • Nicolae Ciucă – 9.3%.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu declared himself surprised by the high percentage of votes obtained by the sovereignist candidate Călin Georgescu

Present in the EuropaFM studio after the results of the presidential election polls were shown, the journalist wondered where Georgescu's votes came from, who ranked 3rd in the exit polls.

“It didn't go down much Simion. It has 14%. These are new votes for Georgescu, which brings him to 16%. Maybe there are votes from Sosoacă, but not from Simion”, stated CTP.

“What can I tell you? This Călin Georgescu is more dangerous than Simion in fooling people. It lacks the component that led to Simion's overwhelming rejection. You saw that he moderated the tone a lot in the last part of the campaign”, added the journalist.

He also analyzed the messages that Călin Georgescu addressed in the electoral campaign.

“Georgescu had positions outside, he was at the UN, he has experience, internal and external diplomatic relations. Behind him are appreciations for Zelea Codreanu, for the legionnaires, for Antonescu. There are tributes to Putin and his policies. (…) He is much worse than Simion. It reaches people who have no experience in manipulation,” CTP added to EuropaFM.
