Yacht news: OCEA, a launch and a major project

This 32.70 m long aluminum explorer yacht is currently being finished. Updated to charter standards, it will be delivered to its owner at the beginning of spring.

Having left the shipyard this summer, the Commuter 108 New is like a posthumous tribute to the talent of the naval architect Michel Joubert, who died in 2016, who collaborated for more than ten years with Ocea.

Although signed by the internal design office at the Vendée shipyard, we clearly find the Joubert-Nivelt style in this delicate and timeless line which characterizes numerous units produced over the last twenty years by Ocea.

THE Switch 108 New is nonetheless a state-of-the-art expedition yacht, equipped with a technical package which will allow it, thanks to its solar panels and a latest generation battery bank, to benefit from optimized energy management from the edge.

This displacement hull obviously has a transoceanic vocation. It has a 55,000 liter tank and two 600 hp engines, the objective being to guarantee a range of 4,000 miles at 10 knots. Designer Pierre Frutschi carried out the interior designs in close cooperation with the owner couple, who were very involved.

The passenger compartment was designed to accommodate eight passengers and four crew members.

The boat underwent modifications this fall at the request of the owner in order to bring it up to standard for charter use.

Alongside this launch, Ocea revealed the first images of a mega project carried out in collaboration with the London firm Vitruvius directed by Philippe Briand. Baptized Grand Explorerthis 72 m long megayacht is characterized by a stealthy silhouette inspired by military ships and a wheelhouse at the top of the 360° superstructure.
