Get ready! The Fête des Cafats de l’Escalet juggles with a string of festive nuggets. The event is scheduled for three dates, July 6 and 14, 2024, before the traditional festivities of August 15. We’ll explain it to you.
On land as on sea, the Calfats are on the rise in 2024. And to celebrate, the association has put together a program of big days: fishing competitions, friendly barbecues, immediate boarding, rock fish soup… And to digest, fishing competitions and pétanque games, visit to the Grand Portico.
Sea trips and good food
From July 6, it is in the early morning from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. that the fishermen will leave, boarding their fifteen boats for the traditional fishing competition. “We respect this fishing authorization zone outside Parc des Calanques“, specifies Jean-Luc Ledys, president of Calfats. The caught fish will then be weighed and preserved until the evening to cook the soup. You will have to wait twenty hours to taste it. The rock soup is accompanied by tomatoes, onions, apples of earth and rust As for the barbecue, the festivities will launch at 1 p.m., with pétanque from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On July 14, the association will embark in front of the Notre-Dame church from 9 a.m., subject to suitable weather conditions. In the meantime, you will have a feast for the eyes. The colorful parade of about twenty boats decks out from Port-Vieux to Saint-Jean.
“The public who sail with us appreciates the atmosphere of the Calfatsexplains Jean-Luc Ledys, president of the association. It is an opportunity to discover the sea, the boats and navigation techniques, with or without sail. The outing is done with all safety standards. There is a lot of camaraderie and proximity among seafarers. Developing an associative network also means being open to meeting other associations such as La Ciotat culture and the Éden Théâtre.“
The renowned Pierre Du Chaffaut has not given up anything in this association. He has become the great coordinator of the “Barquettes en folie” and specifies: “I am very happy with this growing and diversified activity of the Calfats. A new breath of entertainment for enthusiasts is here. Conviviality is the order of the day. But not only ! We welcome the Friends of the Calfats to the festivities, for a small price, 10 € per meal, inexpensive for a delicious fresh rock soup!”
And if your personal schedule does not allow you to free yourself, know that another day at sea will take place on July 14, 2024. Immediate boarding on board the traditional boats from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A wonderful program of (re)discovery of this Provençal heritage which will also be honored on August 15 with blessing of boats, meals and parade of boats on the theme of the Olympic Games.
