It’s the “comet of the century”! Present in the sky of the northern hemisphere since October 11, 2024, the comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was visible in the Pyrenees. “My photos were taken on Sunday October 20, between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., at Courtal d’Labor », says Olivier, alias Hug Zéroneufon social networks.

“It was visible to the naked eye, intermittently, due to a veil of cloudy altitude,” underlines the photographer. “The more time progressed, the more it sank into the cloudy veil of altitude, gradually disappearing to the naked eye, but still observable by the camera. I could admire the Milky Way, the comet and the lights of Guzet . Then, the comet melted on a Valiermelting! The sight was magnificent, with this shiny hair and this long tail of dust. »

The comet Tsuchinshan-ATLASits scientific name C/2023 A3, was observed for the first time in January 2023 by the Chinese Tsuchinshan Observatory as it crossed the orbit of Saturnthen a few months later by the South African program Atlasexplains the regional daily West . Hence its name, Tsuchinshan-Atlas.
