After the commissioning of a first section between Saint-Cyr-l’Ecole and Saint-Germain-en-Laye in July 2022, a second portion of 9.9 kilometers will be developed between Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Achères via Poissy. The tracks will be laid in the forest of St-Germain-en-Laye on the old route of the main belt along the D 190 then will cross the center of Poissy along Boulevard Gambetta (RD190) and taking the future Europe Boulevard.

Partner of the operation, the Department provides financial support for the project. A grant was approved during the Departmental Council meeting of September 29, 2024 in order to help finance the work and continue land acquisitions. A financing protocol committing the Department to financing all of the work was also approved.

Meet a growing need for travel

The objective of this phase 2 is to respond to a growing need for travel and thus ensure service to urban centers and activities. Thanks to this connection, users will no longer need to go through to connect the North and South of Yvelines. This cross-section will make it possible to extend the network towards the network of RER A and RER C railway lines. But not only that.

“The tram will offer additional connections with Eole at Poissy station,” explains Richard Delepierre, vice-president of the departmental council responsible for Mobility.

The future line will connect the Grande-Ceinture Lisière Péreire station, which is served by the tram after the commissioning of the first phase in July 2022, to that of Achères-Ville via the RER station of Poissy. It will include three intermediate stops between Lisière Péreire and Achères.

Launch of preparatory work

The first preparatory work has just been launched in the town center of Poissy with the opening of numerous trenches. Excavators and construction equipment are deployed in different locations, in the areas of Boulevard Gambetta and the Europe roundabout. “We must divert the water and sanitation networks but also the fiber which is on the tram route,” indicates the elected official of the city in charge of the file.

This preparatory work should last until the summer of 2025. Then will come the development of the railway infrastructure. As for the commissioning of this new link, it is hoped for by 2028. It will then take barely 40 minutes to complete the journey between Saint-Cyr-l’Ecole and Achères.
