2 broadcasts a fake trailer made using AI and angers James Gunn

In a tab dedicated to the character of Superman in its 8 p.m. news, 2 inadvertently slipped a false trailer for James Gunn’s adaptation scheduled for 2025. On social networks, the director expressed his disgust at the the sequence.

An error that caused quite a stir. This Saturday, October 19, France 2 broadcast what it announced as the trailer for the next adaptation of “Superman”, scheduled for 2025. Except that this video is not official and was made by a fan who ‘had broadcast on Youtube. Worse, it uses artificial intelligence to insert the actors’ faces onto those of other actors.

The excerpts broadcast from this video (see below) show both shots created entirely by AI, but also rearrangements of Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”, where Henry Cavill’s face was replaced by that of David Corenswet, chosen to embody a new version of the Man of Steel.

A mistake that did not go unnoticed on social networks. An Internet user cut out the sequence which has been viewed more than two million times, sparking many negative reactions. And above all, that of James Gunn, who is none other than the director of the feature film and president of DC Studios, overseeing all projects adapted from DC Comics comics for the Warner Bros. studio.

A director opposed to AI

The latter, a fervent opponent of the use of artificial intelligence, commented on the extract with three emojis symbolizing disgust, on not that”, James Gunn replied “That’s what I would have liked too”.

And for good reason, no trailer for this new film, soberly titled “Superman”, has yet been revealed. Only two official images have been released, one showing the superhero putting on his red boots and the other with his dog, Krypto, observing the Earth from the Moon. The feature film, supposed to relaunch the DC Cinematographic Universe in cinema, after a series of failures, is due to be released in theaters on July 7, 2025 and is currently in post-production.

A documentary on the actor Christopher Reeve, who lent his features to the character four times between 1978 and 1987, entitled “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”, has been broadcast in theaters since October 9.
