Zurich: sentenced for filming himself at 250km/h on the highway

He was driving at 250km/h on a section limited to 80km/h, while filming himself in his BMW. The incident, which occurred in 2021, was revealed during a police investigation for another case. A week later, again in the same place, but “only” at 214km/h, still under the lens of a camera.

The young man, 23, was recently tried before the Zurich court. The prosecution considered that his behavior constituted a serious violation of traffic rules. Although the accused had, as best he could, justified his behavior as lack of maturity at the time, the judge warned that no further offenses would be tolerated in the future. He therefore sentenced him to two years in prison, with three years suspended.

In addition to his speeding, the man had a “violent” video, banned in Switzerland. The court granted the young man one last chance, noting that he had since changed his life: married, father of a child, the Zurich resident, of Turkish origin, plans to bring his family to Switzerland. The prosecutor had asked for a more severe sentence, but the court opted for a probationary period.
