After stopping production of flagship phones following the poor reception of the Nokia 9 PureView, new information reveals that HMD is planning a new flagship device equipped with a Snapdragon 8 series processor. It also appears that the phone will have a modular design like the HMD Fusion.

This year, HMD produced several smartphones bearing its own brand instead of Nokia’s. Although there have been a few notable models like the HMD Skyline and the HMD Fusion, none of them are considered flagships. However, that could soon change if rumored specifications of an upcoming HMD phone under development are to be believed.

The specifications were posted on X by the user @smashx_60and reveal that the device, which has the model number TA-1691, is codenamed “Moon Knight”. According to the source, the phone will have a P-OLED display with FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. There is no mention of screen size.

Regarding the chipset, HMD would have opted for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the same as the one that equips the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra (currently €1,004 on Amazon.de). The source did not specify the amount of RAM or storage options available. However, it is stated that the phone will have four cameras on the back.

An interesting feature revealed by the leaker is that the phone will have POGO pins. We believe the HMD Moon Knight will have a “modular” design like the HMD Fusion that allows users to attach cases that add additional functions to the phone.

Additionally, the phone will feature dual speakers, 5G support, and an aluminum chassis. The source added that further details, including a render of the device, will be revealed soon. Hopefully, this leak will contain key information such as camera configuration, battery capacity, and charging speed.

The HMD Moon Knight is shaping up to be an interesting device, given that HMD has been focusing on budget and mid-range smartphones for the past few years, even when it was still releasing smartphones under the Nokia brand. The company’s last flagship phone was the Nokia 9 PureView which was not well received.

In fact, the company revealed in early 2022 that it would no longer make flagship phones. Instead, it will focus on feature phones and entry- and mid-range smartphones. It looks like something has changed if the specs of this device are anything to go by. Unfortunately, this alleged device will not be launched under the Nokia brand since HMD Global has stopped manufacturing Nokia-branded smartphones.
