HJK Helsinki is facing a complicated end to the season.

Since the football championship in Finland started on April 6th, it will soon end on October 19th. On the one hand, HJK Helsinki is already on the home stretch, but on the other hand, it still has 6 appearances in the Conference League before the end of the year – starting this Thursday against FC Lugano in their European exile in Thun.

Follow the game between FC Lugano and HJK Helsinki on Thursday from 8:40 p.m. live on SRF two or in the sports app via stream and ticker. Kick-off in the Stockhorn Arena takes place at 9:00 p.m.
Afterwards, SRF two will broadcast the magazine “Europa League – Highlights” from 11 p.m., in which the European evening is reviewed.
The champion team from the metropolis will appear after reaching the championship phase. Only 2 points were added from the last 3 games. - In Switzerland the championship is still young, only 8 matchdays old.
- Coach Mattia Croci-Torti’s team is tied for the top three in the Super League with Lucerne and Zurich, so they still have all the options. Different standards also apply to the most recent result: the Ticino team have 7 points from the last 3 matches in this country, and there has only been one defeat – on August 11th in a 2-3 win against Lucerne.

- The founding dates back to 1907.
- HJK is the abbreviation for Helsingin jalkapalloklubi – in German simply Helsinki Football Club.
- Since 1964, the upper house, the Veikkausliiga, has been held without interruption.
- HJK is the only European club to be the record champion in both men’s and women’s football. For the men, the trophy cabinet is filled with 33 championship trophies (4 times in a row since 2020) and 14 cup wins, the women’s division has 23 championships.
- HJK Helsinki is the only Finnish representative in the Champions League group stage (1998/99) and has already been in the Europa League twice. The Finns are now starting their third campaign at the third highest international level.
In this statistic too, Helsinki is just ahead of FC Lugano. After two Europa League campaigns (2017/18 and 2019/20), the Ticino team is launching their second group phase at Conference League level. But when it comes to a direct test of strength, it is well known that it is not the history that counts, but rather the current form. And this speaks for the Swiss representative…
