War in Ukraine: fire at an oil terminal is brought under control in Crimea

The fire at a large oil terminal in Feodossïa, located in the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula annexed by Moscow, has been brought under control, emergency services announced on Saturday, six days after an attack claimed by kyiv. “There are no more flames,” an anonymous emergency source told Russian state news agency Ria Novosti.

According to her, firefighters are working to “cool” the fuel tanks damaged during this major disaster. In recent days, huge plumes of smoke continued to billow from the site, according to Russian media videos.

More than a thousand people evacuated

If the Russian authorities did not indicate the cause of the fire, they did not deny the announcement from Ukraine, which declared having struck the terminal with missiles. More than 1,100 people have been evacuated from the surrounding area since the start of the week, the mayor of Feodosia, Igor Tkatchenko, previously said.

In response to Russian bombings for more than two and a half years on its infrastructure and cities, Ukraine has increased attacks against Russian energy sites in order to disrupt the logistics of Moscow’s army which still occupies nearly 20% of Ukrainian territory.
