Sketch controversy at the “Grand Cactus”: a 2.5-hour “constructive dialogue” took place this morning between RTBF and the LGBTQIA+ community

Faced with this cyberharassment, women decided to respond in an ironic way, by reappropriating the meaning of the word and inventing “Tanaland”, a fictional country guaranteed to be free of machos and 100% feminine. In other words, a “safe place” on the networks in order to fight and protect ourselves from inappropriate, sexist and misogynistic comments aimed at denigrating women on the way they dress or wear makeup.

To access it, nothing could be simpler, just be insulted by “tana” in the comments and the doors to this utopian world will be wide open. If we are to believe the statistics, the insult is commonplace since in a few days, the “country” already has more than 18 million inhabitants.

Since its creation, Tanaland has evolved significantly. The safe place has a government, a national anthem, a president, an airport and a candy pink decoration. All shared in a caricatured way to make fun of misogynistic clichés.

As a reminder, according to a study carried out in 2022 by the association Féministes contre le harassment, 84% of victims of cyberviolence are women.
