VIDEO – Antoine Dupont discusses the recent death of his father: “He was in a vegetative state for 8 years”

This Saturday, October 5, Antoine Dupont was the guest of the show broadcast on 2, The Papotin Meetings. The French XV star took the opportunity to discuss the painful loss of his father, who had been ill for many years. A sequence which occurs after one of his interlocutors questions him about his connection with his family, encouraging the athlete to open up: “I am very close to my family and my mother. Since they are not far from , I can see them often. This is something that is important to me”he confides.

But when asked to say more about his father, the rugby player admitted, full of emotion, that his “dad died last year”. “He had taken a wrong turn. He had been in a vegetative state for eight years. He was in a center, where he was not doing very well. And he died last year.” There is no doubt that the latter would have been very proud of his son, whose team emerged as gold medalists at the Olympic Games last July.

Antoine Dupont: his mother’s pride

He shone during the last Olympics. The star player of the French rugby team led his team to victory in a match between the Blues and the Fiji selection. A match that kept all oval ball fans in suspense, starting with Antoine Dupont’s mother, a supporter from the start. In the documentary series At the heart of the games broadcast on September 10, we see her celebrating the success of her offspring in the stands, before taking her son in her arms after he received the coveted medal: “But it’s incredible! I told him: ‘But this kid is crazy!’” we hear him whisper, discreetly. Unfailing support that warms the heart.
