After her crime – she targeted Mary and Jesus during a shooting exercise – the Zurich politician is facing a possible expulsion from the Green Liberals, as watson learned from the party president.

“This is the most stupid thing you can imagine.” The president of the Swiss Green Liberals, Jürg Grossen, reacted sharply to Sanija Ameti’s behavior. Ameti, a member of the Zurich section of the Green Liberals, attracted attention by practicing shooting with a pistol, where her target was a picture of Mary and Jesus.
She reported on this exercise in an Instagram post, which Blick reported on and which she has since deleted.
Jürg Grossen confirms to watson:
“We will meet in the party’s committees to discuss how to proceed in this matter. The exclusion of Sanija Ameti from the Green Liberals is one of several options that we will discuss.”

The 32-year-old Swiss woman comes from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She describes herself as both a Muslim and an agnostic. She is particularly known for her involvement in Operation Libero, a pro-European, anti-racist movement of which she is co-chair and which, according to its own statements, fights against “populisms”.
Why did she choose a depiction of the Virgin Mary with child as a target for the pistol shooting? “As a model for the 10-meter shooting, I needed a motif that was clearly visible,” she replied. She took the picture from a magazine. In her first Instagram post, the religious depiction is riddled with numerous bullet holes.

She apologized for her actions, as Blick reports:
“That was absolutely stupid of me. I didn’t think about what I did. I am incredibly sorry. I apologize to the people who were hurt.”

The Green Liberals, for their part, declared that they would condemn “any form of violence and disrespect towards religious symbols and religions themselves”.
President Jürg Grossen, Green Liberal member of the National Council of Bern, told watson that he had not spoken to her since the revelations about Sanija Ameti.
The AfD’s electoral success in eastern Germany is causing shock waves. There is an irritating tendency in the Swiss media to trivialize the right-wing extremist party.
Last Sunday’s state elections caused a stir far beyond Germany. The Alternative for Germany (AfD), which the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies as “certainly right-wing extremist”, won a clear victory in the state of Thuringia and came in second place in neighboring Saxony, just behind the CDU.
