Winner of the FA Cup this Saturday with Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne will have to wait a bit before receiving his medal.
MAnchester City secured the FA Cup by beating arch-rivals United in the final (2-1) at Wembley on Saturday afternoon. This is the seventh FA Cup for the Cityzens, the first since 2019. This coronation allows Pep Guardiola’s men to stay in the race for the triple crown since they have already secured the Premier League and he they only have the Champions League to win. “KDB”, the new captain of the Red Devils, wins his 2nd FA Cup after 2019, which adds to his now 5 Premier League titles.
However, it was a rather unusual scene that took place for the Belgian after the final whistle. Indeed, during the traditional trophy presentation, all the Skyblues, with Pep Guardiola in the lead, passed in front of Prince William to receive their medal and lift the trophy in front of their supporters. So they all received their reward… except Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan! These two, respectively vice-captain and captain of the English champion team, were at the back of the pack, in order to receive the trophy and bring it in front of their teammates. Except that, all their teammates having passed before them, there was no more medal! The English federation obviously did not count enough medals, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne will receive their reward later. They therefore had to make do with the trophy, which they were able to hold up in front of the public, and the medals lent by their teammates for the photos. There are worse consolation prizes…
