After qualifying for the CHL quarter-finals, the Genevans returned to the championship on Friday. The Grenat won 5-4 in overtime against Langnau. Next match Saturday against Berne.
The series promises to be as intense as it is decisive, between now and December 9, the Garnet will play 10 matches (9 in the championship and the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League). In the ranking, Geneva is 12th while Langnau occupies 10th place. This match is still important for the Genevans who must not miss the top 10 train, even if the season is still long.
Langnau will quickly open the score after less than 2 minutes of play, leaving the Garnets who remained in their bus unmoved. An observation which will become widespread in the 1st third with dominant Emmentals and apathetic Genevans. The score 1-0 after 20 minutes is almost a good thing.
0.3 seconds
The second third will start on a much better basis since the Garnet equalize in the 23rd minute thanks to Markus Granlund. It is then the Genevans who are better in the middle third. But Langnau at home is still confident. All it takes is one dangerous shot for the Bernese players to regain the advantage in the 28th minute. Rebelote 70 seconds from the end of the third with a goal from Langnau which fell after a good sequence from the locals. But hope will be reborn 3 tenths from the second siren with a Geneva goal scored by Praplan. Everything is therefore possible in the third third.
The ounce of optimism will be silenced less than 3 minutes after the start of the third with the 4th Emmental goal. We even feared that the Bernese would take a 3-goal lead in the 46th minute but the goal was canceled due to offside. In a third more balanced than the first two, the Genevans gave themselves the right to believe in it 6 minutes from time thanks to Tim Berni.
Victoire
The Garnet hit the post in the last two minutes of the match, we then say to ourselves that the outcome of the match is over. But 40 seconds into the match, Emmental goalkeeper Stéphane Charlin (future Geneva next season) completely misses his recovery which bounces off Markus Granlund and allows Geneva, out of nowhere, to equalize.
Markus Granlund who will offer himself a hat-trick thanks to his goal in overtime which gives the victory to GSHC. Next match Saturday against Berne, still against a Bernese team
