Construction of Israeli drone production unit advances

Last April, the CEO of the Israeli arms company BlueBird Aero Systems announced, in statements to the press, the construction of a drone production factory in Morocco. Eight months after this announcement, we learned that the work had begun. Israeli experts are in the kingdom to supervise operations, even if the pace of the installation of this unit has been impacted by the Israeli offensive on Gaza. The production of unmanned aircraft is intended for the Moroccan market and for export, particularly to Africa.

Morocco aims to enter the closed circle of arms manufacturers, well before the resumption of its relations with the Hebrew State, on December 10, 2020. In November 2023, the Minister Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration , Abdellatif Loudiyi, reported to Parliament the project to develop a military industry in the kingdom focused on the production of unmanned aircraft.

The military cooperation agreement between Morocco and Israel, signed on November 24, 2021 in Rabat, in fact devoted a section to the emergence of a military industry in the kingdom, with the assistance of Israeli expertise.

In addition to drones, the National Defense Administration and the Indian company Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) concluded, on September 27 in Rabat, a strategic partnership aimed at the production in Morocco of the WhAP 8×8 land combat vehicle.
