Since last season, the Olympique Lyonnais goalkeepers have been coached by Simon Pouplin. The former professional goalkeeper who played for Rennes, Fribourg, Sochaux and Nice (between 2003 and 2018)whose name had been suggested by Camille Abily, the former OL assistant coach, succeeded Christophe Gardié in June 2023. After an interview and discussions “more than positive” with Abily, Sonia Bompastor, the coach at the time, Vincent Ponsot and… Rémy Vercoutre, the OL goalkeeper coach, the recruitment of Pouplin is confirmed. “Simon’s profile was really in line with our sporting project, explains Ponsot, the general director of the Lyon club. For several years, he was able to train goalkeepers of all categories, which today allows him to be a versatile and very interesting profile. I had also heard good things about him and, for two years, we have been satisfied with his work with the goalkeepers and the role he plays within the staff. »
