Ajax played a friendly match against VFB Stuttgart yesterday. Davy Klaasen still saw red.
We told you about it yesterday, Mika Godts and Jorthy Mokio both received playing time (the first as a starter, the second when returning to the game) with Ajax, during the friendly match against VFB Stuttgart.
But it was a seemingly innocuous action that stole the show in the second half. Shortly before game time, Davy Klaasen unintentionally stepped on Atakan Karazor’s ankle, who writhed in pain.
The only time challenging the referee’s decision served any purpose
Faced with the dangerousness of the gesture, the referee took out the red card. A situation which ultimately did not help either team: this friendly match was used to gauge themselves against an opponent of similar caliber, so there was no point in the match being “truncated” by this twist of fate.
The midfielder spoke at length with the referee, apologizing. Initially reluctant, the latter finally agreed to continue the meeting with the excluded player on the field.
A relatively rare scene which even allowed Ajax to overcome a two-goal handicap to return to 2-2. Suffice it to say that Stuttgart will be less conciliatory in the event of exclusion in the opposing camp when it comes to a Bundesliga match.
