Dante Vanzeir (26 years old) has just finished his second season in Major League Soccer. After a difficult adaptation marked in particular by accusations of racism which earned him a heavy suspension, the former Union Saint-Gilloise striker established himself last year.
In 2024, Vanzeir reached the final of the MLS Playoffs with the NY Red Bulls, scoring 6 goals and providing 10 assists. But his American adventure could already be coming to an end. According to the Nieuwsblad, La Gantoise would be closely interested in his case.
The Buffalos have lost Max Dean for the remainder of the season after the Englishman tore his cruciate knee ligaments. A big blow, because Dean was one of the most successful transfers of the first part of the season. We must therefore find a replacement for him.
Vrancken and Vanzeir reunited in Ghent?
Could this replacement be Dante Vanzeir? Still according to our Dutch-speaking colleagues, the NY Red Bulls would not be against a sale, and the player himself would be interested in the idea of returning to Belgium. Vanzeir cost the New York club 5 million, and is estimated at 4 million euros by Transfermarkt; having only one year left on his contract, he should not be beyond the reach of Ghent’s purses.
Wouter Vrancken already knew Vanzeir in 2019-2020, at KV Mechelen, without much success (18 matches, 3 goals). Since then, the striker has taken on another dimension thanks to his move to Union Saint-Gilloise (48 goals in 91 matches), which contributed to the great Unionist success during the season of the rise. Vanzeir also became a Red Devil (one cap in 2021).
