After hanging up his boots in May, Ritchie De Laet became youth coach at Antwerp. A job he only kept for six months.

At the end of last season, Ritchie De Laet hung up his boots, but did not yet say goodbye to the world of football. The former full-back became youth coach at Antwerp.

But, after around six months, the former Aston Villa, Manchester United and Stoke City player is already calling it quits. “Ritchie De Laet has decided to leave his position as RAFC youth coach with immediate effect,” the Great Old said in a statement this Saturday.

“During this period, he was able to experience the direction in which he could develop his future professional career,” adds Number 1 about the man who played his very last match in May, taking part in the game for a minute against Anderlecht during the last day of Play-Offs 1.

Coaching is clearly not for Ritchie De Laet

The former right-back, Red Devil twice in 2009, would have come to a simple conclusion: coaching is not his thing. The workload, in the afternoon or during the weekend, would weigh too much on his family life.

“I will be able to devote more time to my loved ones, trying to expand my work as a television analyst and waiting to see what professional opportunities will arise,” said Ritchie de Laet before concluding. “I would like to thank Antwerp for the opportunity it gave me. It was, and will always remain, the club of my heart.”
