After five years of intensive work, Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral has regained its splendor and opened its doors to the public again on Saturday December 7. The rebirth of the building was marked by the contribution of numerous craftsmen and businesses. Among them is a long-standing Le Havre company. This is the river transport brand Sogestran which played an indirect but essential role in this restoration operation through its subsidiary Sogestran Logistics. As a multimodal transport organizer, it was mandated by the Balas group to manage the logistics linked to the transport of stones and lead plates necessary for the rehabilitation of the roofs of the monument. Over a period of nine months, from February to October 2024, the structure made a dozen round trips to deliver part of the roofing materials required for the work.
To successfully carry out this project, Sogestran Logistics has implemented a fleet of boats specially equipped with cranes, allowing heavy loads to be transported and handled directly on the docks. In total, nearly 1,800 lead plates, or around 150 tonnes of materials, were transported by self-propelled boat or barge to the site.
