It's a rare eventwhich happened as of January 1, 2025 : two municipalities you Northmore precisely from Avesnois, disappeared at the same time as 2024! Not of the map of France, but as entities. In fact, they merged to form one, leaving behind their old names. These cities are formerly Amfroipret et Bermeriesnow united under the name The Orée de Mormal. Some 600 souls populate this new commune.

In the last municipal newspaper distributed in December, the mayor of Amfroipret, Philippe Eustache, expressed his enthusiasm for this rapprochement, “in which we believe, and in which the vast majority of elected officials and citizens believe” . With the merger, administrative headaches have been forgotten, but above all, a new economic lease of life will be given to this newly born territory.

The budgetary restrictions decided by the new government give even more meaning to our decision to merge Amfroipret and Bermeries, because this guarantees us a bonus from the State for the next three years and stability in our overall operating allocation.

In terms of distribution of equipment, the town hall of L'Orée de Mormal will be that of Amfroipret, when the village hall will be that of Bermeries. Residents should quickly find their way there…

On January 7, the municipal councilors of the two old towns will elect the future mayor and his deputies, while waiting for the next municipal elections in 2026. As for those administered, will they be the Mormalois? Or the Oreans? The mystery remains for now.
