NFL: Jerry Jones says he is in no rush to comment on Mike McCarthy’s future in Dallas

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he didn’t feel pressured to make a quick decision on the future of head coach Mike McCarthy, whose contract expires after the final game of the regular season, Sunday, against the Washington Commanders.

“I’m not on an unusual schedule at all,” Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan.

After the 2019 season ended, Jones hired McCarthy a week after the final game to replace Jason Garrett, who had held the position for nine seasons. When Bill Parcells retired after the 2006 season, Jones interviewed 11 candidates before hiring Wade Phillips.

Jones, however, did not comment on McCarthy’s future.

“This morning, I don’t intend to say that I’m not interested in Mike’s return,” Jones said. “I don’t want that to be the case at all. We have this game ahead of us, but I assure you that I have been thinking about how we will move forward after this season for weeks. »

On Monday, McCarthy chose not to say whether he wanted to return or explore other options since he could take advantage of his autonomy to join a new team.
