Rangers and CH are tied in the standings

If I had told you just before the 2024-2025 season started that the Montreal Canadiens would have the same number of points as the New York Rangers after 35 games, you certainly would not have believed me.

You would have told me that it was impossible for the Habs to exceed expectations so much and find themselves in such a good position in the general classification, or in a place for the playoffs.

You could never have thought and believed that the CH would be tied with the Rangers while being exactly in the mold of the expectations placed on the team at the start of the season, not too far from the mix.

Well, here we are now almost halfway through the season, and the Canadian finds himself with the same number of points as the Rangers with the same number of games played.

The two teams have 33 points with the following records:

  • New York Rangers: 16-18-1 with a differential of -10
  • Montreal Canadiens: 15-17-3 with a differential of -18

In short, CH does indeed have the same number of points as the New York Rangers, which is simply mind-blowing and truly surprising.

On the one hand, it’s positive for the Habs, and on the other, it’s catastrophic for the Rangers,

Under no circumstances should Stanley Cup contenders like the Rangers find themselves in such a bad position, to the point of playing for less than .500 just like the Habs.

Obviously, the season is still long, and being five points out of the playoffs isn’t an insurmountable challenge, but still, it shows how bad things really are for the Rangers.

They have nine losses in their last 12 games, while nothing is working at all levels, whether in front of the net with Igor Shesterkin, on defense or even on offense.

In the end, it’s a nightmare for the Rangers which makes the Habs look very good, who are having a good streak with a 6-4-0 record in their last ten games.

And casually, with the atmosphere that is very good in the Canadian team currently, being five points from the playoffs is really not a very big gap and could become a motivation for the CH players.

With another good streak, the CH could get closer to two or three points from the Ottawa Senators (38 points) and the last place giving access to the playoffs.

All of this therefore remains to be followed closely.
