Here we go again: after Qatar, FIFA could once again opt for a winter World Cup – All football

We thought that the fad of organizing a World Cup in the middle of winter would only be a one-shot propelled by the greed of Sepp Blatter and his cronies. But Gianni Infantino is even worse, and unsurprisingly, we are once again heading towards a delayed World Cup.

It is a certainty: next December, FIFA will designate Saudi Arabia as the organizing country for the 2034 World Cup, due to a lack of competitors. Only twelve years after the World Cup in Qatar, football will return to the sands of the Orient, in a country washing its hands of basic human rights but rich enough to make it forgotten.

Saudi Arabia has become a major player in international football in recent years, purchasing some of the world’s biggest stars with huge salaries – Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, N’golo Kanté… and even Yannick Carrasco and Koen Casteels. But there’s one thing their money can’t buy: weather.

And in June, the temperatures will be far too high to compete in a World Cup; Saudi football is at a standstill from May to September for this reason. RMC Sport therefore affirms it: at the same time as it will announce that the Saudi Kingdom is hosting the 2034 World Cup, FIFA could well reveal that this will be the second winter version of the competition.

Small difference compared to the Qatari World Cup, organized in November-December: Saudi Arabia should organize its own in January The months of November and December indeed include several important religious events in this country which is the cradle of Islam.

We imagine that the players will be delighted at the idea, once again, of seeing their program completely turned upside down by a World Cup in the middle of the season. The organization of the 2022 World Cup had forced major upheavals in the calendars which, added to the reminiscences of COVID-19, had long-term effects that are still being felt today on certain organizations. But as long as Gianni Infantino gets what he wants…
