Trump, Olympics and Liam Payne: here are the 25 most viewed Wikipedia pages in 2024

With more than 76 billion searches on its site this year, the Wikipedia encyclopedia revealed Tuesday the 25 articles in English which have most captivated the interest of Internet users on a global scale.

Celebrities, deaths, politics or major American films: current events have once again marked the top 25 most searched subjects in 2024 around the world.

Well at the top of the list, it is the list of deaths for the current year, “Death in 2024”, which attracted the most clicks with more than 44 million page views, reported CNN.

A result that did not surprise the Wikimedia Foundation, as equivalent pages from previous years would never have ranked lower than third since Wikipedia began sharing its annual data in 2015.

The American elections had a major impact on the 2024 data, appearing among more than a third of the subjects on the list.

The Wikipedia page “Kamala Harris” thus took second place in the topo, with nearly 29 million clicks, while her opponent, Donald Trump, earned nearly 25.3 million views, in fifth position.

Certain legal events also marked the list, including the brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez (26.1 million clicks), indicted for the double murder of their parents in 1989, who were the subject of a documentary and a series as their second trial approaches.

Griselda Blanco (13.5 million), a Colombian drug trafficker nicknamed the “Queen of Cocaine,” and American rapper Sean Combs (13.1 million), accused of sex trafficking, also ranked 21st and 22nd. .

This year again, celebrities earned a big share of the pie, such as singer Taylor Swift (17 million), multi-billionaire Elon Musk (15.5 million), soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo (13.7 million) or even singer Liam Payne (12 million), died suddenly in October.

Some major American productions, such as “Deadpool & Wolverine”, or “Dune: Part Two”, were respectively placed in 8th and 23rd position in the ranking, with nearly 22.4 million and 12.8 million views.
