During the final round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Akshay Bhatia achieved a rare double “performance”, especially on the PGA Tour: he hit a drive measured from 88 meters away and signed on this hole… a par.

When you don’t get past the red balls at the start, amateur tradition dictates that you buy your partners a round of drinks at the end of the game. Akshay Bhatiahe had other worries on his mind than thinking about his future bill at the bar when he hit a terrible drive on hole n° 13, a par 4 of 355 meters, during the last round of the Rocket Mortgage ClassicThe lanky American left-hander was in the running for victory.

So when his ball very quickly hit a tree to go back, the winner of the Valero Texas Open 2024 hasn’t lost his composure. A 3-wood, a wedge and a putt later, he saved an improbable par to stay in the title race. Or how to go from (almost) ridiculous to the admiration of all.

Bhatia’s adventures on this hole n°13, even with the only graphic animation, remain quite astonishing… This drive measured at less than 100 meters will surely remain as the shortest recorded this season on the PGA Tour. But it ended without any unfortunate consequences for the American…
