On Tuesday, July 2, French-Malian star Aya Nakamura called on her social networks to “go and vote, and against the only extreme to condemn.”

I am well placed (sic) to understand and know the place of racism in our country. They are the same ones who get angry when we shine because we haven’t finished shining.” In mid-March, the most listened to French-speaking singer in the world was the victim of attacks from the extreme right when the French weeklyExpress had suggested that the interested party sing at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, with the possibility of covering Edith Piaf.

A far-right group then posted on social media: a photo of a banner held up by a dozen of its members on the banks of the Seine proclaiming: “There’s no way Aya, this is Paris, not the Bamako market!”

The expression “There’s no way” is taken from her global hit Djadja. “I’m becoming a number 1 state subject” and that’s what “hurts you”, the star reacted on her networks, before concluding: “What do I really owe you? Kedal.” Her participation in this ceremony has still not been confirmed.

“Fuck le RN”

For several days, on social networks, Aya Nakamura has been criticized for not giving her position after the tidal wave of the National Rally in the European elections and the first round of the legislative elections. “And yes, I am discreet on these subjects, sometimes we do not feel relevant and legitimate enough to speak and say the right things on areas that we do not control ap (sic)”, she justified herself on Tuesday.

“That doesn’t mean we don’t have an opinion,” the singer explains. Now I understand that my position as an artist requires me to speak outbecause it is an important moment for all of us.” And to conclude: “So on Sunday we are all going to vote, and against the only extreme to condemn because there is only one.”

Earlier in the week, on her social networks, Aya Nakamura had contented herself with a lapidary “Fuck the RN etc”.
