Félix and Alexis Lebrun were crowned doubles winners on Saturday at the WTT Finals in Fukuoka (Japan) by beating the Japanese pair of Hiroto Shinozuka and Shunsuke Togami (3-2).
They are on top of the world. Already reigning European champions and team bronze medalists at the 2024 Olympic Games, Félix and Alexis Lebrun were crowned in doubles on Saturday at the WTT Finals in Fukuoka (Japan), the final tournament on the international circuit of the season. The two brothers overthrew the Japanese pair, made up of Hiroto Shinozuka and Shunsuke Togami, in the final to claim one of the greatest titles of their careers and above all become world number 1 in doubles thanks to the 1,5000 points promised to the winners. A unique performance in the history of French ping.
“It’s something incredible to be ahead of the Chinese in the world rankings. It’s something that gives us great pleasure to show that we can compete with them,” said Alexis Lebrun at the microphone of RMC Sport. And with this success, the two French table tennis phenomena will pocket around 7,700 euros, while the unfortunate finalists won around 5,700 euros.
A victory which allows them to conclude a dream year, both in doubles and in singles, including the title of champion of France and Europe for Alexis, as well as the coronation at the WTT Star Contender in Goa, a medal of bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris (singles) and his title at the WTT Champions in Montpellier for Félix, who occupies 4e place in the world rankings.
“We're going to take a little time to realize what we've done this year. We couldn't have imagined it at the start of the year. We had incredible moments at the Olympic Games, at the world championships, at the European championships, here. There was Montpellier, lots of moments in fact,” confided the youngest of the siblings. Looking forward to 2025 for both.
