Fabio di Giannantonio finished the first day of testing for the Dutch Grand Prix with the thirteenth time. Only five thousandths of a second separate him from teammate Marco Bezzecchi, highlighting the close competitiveness between the VR46 drivers. Despite a good performance, Fabio will have to go through Q1 tomorrow, but he remains optimistic thanks to the good sensations felt on his Ducati.

During the first free practice session of the morning,
Fabio Di Giannantonio impressed by finishing in first place. However, the afternoon proved more complex. “ It wasn’t a great day, The feelings are good but I just missed Q2“, lamented Fabio. “ We were very fast on worn tires, but with new tires I have more trouble. » This difficulty with the new tires was a major obstacle for the Roman driver, who was unable to repeat his performance of the morning.

Fabio Di Giannantonio also encountered mechanical problems at a critical moment. Just when I put the tires on for the flying lap, I had some problems with bike 1, which I preferred, and I had to return to the track with bike 2. It’s a real shame, everything didn’t go well. » These problems forced him to use a motorcycle that he was less comfortable with, which affected his performance.

Despite these setbacks, the pilot of the
VR46 showed promising signs. “ Even on my best lap, I did an excellent partialI made a small mistake at turn 12, I went off the track, and I lost time. » This little mistake cost him dearly, but it also shows that the potential is there to improve his time tomorrow.

The Italian and his team will now analyze the data collected and prepare intensively for Q1. “ Let’s get back to the data and prepare as best we can for this Saturday’s qualifying which will be very tight.” he concluded.
