A very influential consultant has expressed his concern for the rest of the course of the French team in this Euro 2024.

By conceding a disappointing draw against Poland (1-1), the French team missed the opportunity to regain first place in their group. For Eric Di Meco, this group stage is clearly to be forgotten.

“There is still reason to be worried, thundered the former defender. Even if the French team never got us off the couch in the last competitions after the group matches, there was generally something happening, Didier found the formula. In 2018, it was Matuidi’s famous position a little higher on the left, at the last World Cup, it was Griezmann a little lower in the middle and we knew in which direction we were going. There, coming out of these three matches, I am not able to tell you if he will continue with this three-man midfield, if Mbappé will finally return to his left lane and if on the right Dembélé must occupy this position. We’re a little in the dark and that’s what worries me the most.”

A French team without a playing identity

Consultant for BFMTV, Di Meco highlights the collective shortcomings of this French team on the offensive level. “The big problem, offensively, is that we feel that the players are left to their own devices, we are counting on an exploit from Mbappé or Griezmann who was not there last night and we saw that we cannot do without Griezmann.”

« Didier relies a lot on the talent of his attackers, it’s true that there is no link or offensive phases of play which seem to be worked on regularly with situations which recur from match to match to the point of saying, ‘well, that’s the French gaming identity’“, concluded the former French international.
