The summary of Q2
The second qualifying session is over in Montmeló. The drivers took a while to come out of the pits, spending the first five minutes (of 15) warm in their pits. The gaps were very close on the first pass before Max Verstappen relegated Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz to more than two tenths. Lewis Hamilton, in 13th position, was in great danger.
The Briton saved himself on his last attempt by putting his Mercedes back in second position between Max Verstappen (1st) and his teammate George Russell (3rd). For the first time this season, the two Alpines qualified for the final part of qualifying: Pierre Gasly finished 9th and Esteban Ocon 10th. Fernando Alonso was the first to be eliminated but still finished ahead of his teammate Lance Stroll (15th).
