Alexander Zverev (ATP 4) is in the final of the Roland-Garros tournament. After three failures in the semi-finals in the three previous editions, the German overcame the pitfall by winning 2-6 6-2 6-4 6-2 against Casper Ruud (7). Beaten in the final of the US Open in 2020 by Dominic Thiem, he will have a second opportunity to offer himself a first career Grand Slam.

Crowned on the clay of Rome 6 days before the start of the Paris fortnight, Zverev picked up his 12th consecutive success to finally offer himself a 2nd major final. Alexander Zverev above all erased the painful memory of his 2022 semi-final, when he had to give up against Rafael Nadal after seriously injuring his ankle.

Manhandled in the first set by Ruud, who had 8 successes in a row, he turned the tide without too much difficulty. Zverev got back on track at the start of the 2nd set thanks to a break made in the 1st game.

Ruud diminished?

Buoyed by an efficient serve (19 aces in total), he then gradually established himself as the boss on the court, taking the rally into his own hands more often than the Norwegian.

Visibly diminished after the 1st set – he notably called on a doctor during the match to take medicine – Ruud only got one break point in the last three sets, in the last game of the 3rd sleeve. Zverev managed to erase it, winning the last three points of this set before flying over the debates in the 4th round.
