WEC – Daniil Kvyat (Lamborghini): “We have reached the limit with this car”

With 11 points heading into the Bahrain 8H, Lamborghini Iron Lynx is at the bottom of the Hypercar category. Despite results far from the podiums, the 2024 season of the SC63 is not to be thrown away.

The Lamborghini SC63 is counting on the last meeting to find a place in the sun on Saturday evening. Daniil Kvyat, Edoardo Mortara and Mirko Bortolotti remain retired at Fuji.

In the first two free practice sessions, Daniil Kvyat was the fastest of the trio but 2”550 behind the reference time set by Dries Vanthoor on a BMW. In an 8-hour race, there will inevitably be opportunities to be seized in the heat of Sakhir.

While we remain waiting for the future of the Lamborghini SC63 in the WEC, Daniil Kvyat hopes to close the car’s first season with a convincing result.

Eager to end the WEC season in style in Bahrain?

Of course we want to do our best in Bahrain, because it’s the last round of the year. Our goal is always to try to achieve the best possible result and that starts with testing to find the right balance and set-up of the car. We’ve been showing good signs lately and more speed in the car, so we hope to end the year on a positive note.

What are the main challenges posed by the Bahrain circuit?

Definitely tire management will be a major concern here because tire degradation is quite high, it’s an abrasive track so we have to be careful. Choosing the right specification will also be important and getting the most out of these tires in a race will, I think, be the key to a good result.

Looking back on the season, how much has the Lamborghini SC63 improved in performance?

We have made a lot of improvements since Qatar which was still seen as a testing day for us at the first meeting, even during the race. So the improvements have been very positive, but at the same time I think we’ve reached the limit with this car and now we’re looking at what improvements we can make for the future.

How do you think the Lamborghini SC63 will perform in Bahrain?

It’s difficult to say, we are already trying to make the car work as well as possible in testing, we have the potential to do it and I hope we will have the click that we had at Fuji.
